No. Your card has to be extremely close to the reader – typically between two and four centimeters and the retailers must have first entered the amount for you to approve. The card reader cannot be activated by you simply passing by.

How do I get my card?
Existing Members 1st cardholderThere is nothing more you need to do to receive your contactless enabled debit or credit card. When your existing debit or credit card expires, you will be sent a replacement card that is equipped to perform contactless payments. If you feel you need a card more urgently, please call us at (530) 222-6060 or at (800) 303-3838.
Not a Members 1st cardholderTo request a contactless enabled Members 1st debit card, you’ll need to open a Flex Checking account or Travel Card online or by calling us at (530) 222-6060 or by visiting your nearest branch. To request a contactless enabled Members 1st credit card, apply today online or by calling us at (530) 222-6060 or by visiting your nearest branch.
Choose credit when using debit
When making a purchase with your Members 1st debit or travel card, choose credit rather than entering your PIN, for a more contactless experience when making purchases. Your purchase will process just as normal, but may post to your account’s transaction history a few days later when the merchant chooses to process all of their transactions.
